The education section of this web site is dedicated to our friend and teacher, Syd.
Rest in Peace, Syd
It is with great sorrow we announce that Sydney Alexander Lecker passed away on Sunday, August 28th, 2005 at the age of 81. Sydney was born in Winnipeg on February 10th, 1924. Sydney was the youngest of five children. Pre-deceased by his parents, father Joseph and mother Mary, twin sisters Tamara and Cynthia, he is survived by his brothers Manuel and Garson, along with many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, friends and loving partner Larry Mitchell.
Sydney was a fine master while being a gentle soul. He was a teacher involved in special education and the needs of the learning disabled. Sydney was a founding member of the Winnipeg Corvette Club, Lambda, as well as had special interests in travel, The Ballet and The Winnipeg Symphony.
Sydney was the oldest patron of the Black & Blue Ball. To those of us who work every day to promote an alternative life in this city, Sydney was truly a venerable man. He was someone we looked up to. Ball regulars will remember Sydney as the “leatherman” who, despite his many years, still had what it takes to play with his boy, larry, in the dungeon.
Syd and larry's love was an inspiration to those of us who dare to cross the boundaries of age and gender.
Syd will be sorely missed in the years to come.
Internment was at the Shaarey Zedak Synagogue Cemetery on Tuesday, August 30th, 2005.
Rest in peace my friend.
